All Helly Hansen technical outerwear garments (HellyTech, HellyTech XP, and HellyTech O2) are covered by a limited lifetime warranty. Helly Hansen footwear is covered up to one year against defects in materials and workmanship. This policy does not cover normal wear and tear on the product. About Helly Hansen One of the most well known outdoor gear makers around, Helly Hansen was first established in 1877 when Norwegian captain Helly Juell and his wife Maren Margarethe started making oilskin jackets, trousers, sou'westers, and tarpaulins, made from coarse linen soaked in linseed oil. Their products' unusual durability and weather protection quickly caught on. The company won a diploma for excellence at the 1878 Paris Expo, and began exporting its products. Over the course of the 20th century, Helly Hansen led the way in innovating outdoor apparel technologies: 1949: Helox, a thin sheet of translucent PVC plastic sewn into waterproof coats, took over for oil-based outerwear and became the industry standard. 1961: Fiberpile, the original fleece, was first introduced. This new insulation layer was warm, lightweight, and -- most unusually for the time -- quick-drying. 1970s: LIFA fiber was developed to keep the skin dry and warm by wicking moisture away from the body. This unique base layer is still used in the company's product line to this day. 1980: Helly Tech hydrophilic, microporous materials were introduced, bringing waterproof breathability to the outdoor garment market. Today, Helly Hansen gear is used by elite competitive sailors, skiers, and outdoor adventurers, as well as those who simply appreciate being protected from the elements when weather's at its worst.
